Samuel Langley
Samuel Langley died on December 2, 1916. Sam contracted pneumonia and died four (4) days later after being drenched while fighting a fire. Sam died at the age of thirty-seven (37) and was Past Chief of the Fire Company. He lived at 406 Clifton Avenue and is buried at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA. It is believed that Samuel Langley was the first member of Collingdale Fire Company #1 to die as a result of his service.
William L. Gorgas
William L. Gorgas died on June 30, 1921. He died at the age of fifty-four (54) as a result of a fractured skull. While en-route to an alarm, the Fire Truck William was on overturned at 9th and Main in Darby, PA and he was thrown from the apparatus onto the roadway. William lived at 215 Parker Avenue (now MacDade Blvd) with his wife Rachel.
John H. McNeile Jr.
John H. McNeile Jr. died on June 11, 1952. He died at the age of fifty (50) after being over come by smoke when he tried to rescue two (2) boys reported to be in a burning building in the Penn Pines Housing Development. John was a Past Chief of the Fire Company. John helped construct a pumper truck that was used by the Fire Company for many years.
Roy V.E. Rogers
Roy V.E. Rogers died on February 19, 1963. He died at the age of fifty (50) after being exposed to ammonia fumes at a fire at the Collingdale Inn in the 900 block of MacDade Blvd. Roy developed respiratory problems that contributed ultimately to his death. Roy was a former Trustee of the Fire Company. Roy was survived by his wife Julia, one son, Roy, a current 50 year life member who continues to be very active with the Fire Company today, two daughters and one grandchild.
Walter "Bud" Bley
Walter "Bud" Bley died on April 22, 1971. He died at the age of fifty-four (54) as a result of a heart attack. He was helping to handle a 2-inch hose line on a fire at Janess Plumbing Supply Company in the 300 block of MacDade Blvd. He collapsed following an explosion of propane gas cylinders. Bud was survived by his wife Catherine, two daughters, two sons and his mother.
Donald J. Felker
Donald J. Felker died on April 16, 1978. He died at the age of thirty-eight (38) when he suffered an aneurysm while working as a crew member on Collingdale Ambulance. He had just finished carrying a heart attack victim down a flight of stairs and was en-route to the hospital when he died. Don was survived by his wife Patricia and ten children ages eighteen (18) months to sixteen (16) years. Two of Don's sons, Eric and Ken are past Chiefs of Collingdale Fire Company #1, and Eric, Ken and Tim Felker are all life members of the company.
