Saturday, October 17, 2009 At approximately 0845 hours, Collingdale Fire Company #1 & #2 along with Medic 06-7 were dispatched to 1038 Springfield Road for an Accident with entrapment. Chief 42-9 (Moors) arrived on scene and reported a single vehicle on its roof into the house with one subject trapped and established command. Rescue 42 and Engine 06-1 made the initial response and went to work to begin extrication. Chief Moors requested additional rescue units to respond to help with extrication which brought in Rescue 01 (Folcroft) and Rescue 19 (Lansdowne). Additional EMS units were also requested bringing in Medic 04-7A (Darby) and Medic 103 (DCMH). All units on-scene worked well together after a long but successful extrication and returned available. Shortly after returning available, Collingdale Fire Company #1 & #2 were dispatched to 520 Pusey Avenue at approx. 1210 hours for an automatic fire alarm. Units arrived on scene and reported smoke in the building which upgraded the assignment to a building fire. Crews found a transformer on fire on the first floor. Crews secured power to the building and ventilated the first and second floors. Upon clearing Pusey Avenue, Fireboard instructed Engine 06-1 to respond with Medic 06-7 & 06-7B to Providence Road & Jeffrey Avenue in Aldan Borough for a pedestrian struck. Engine 06-1 arrived on scene and assisted EMS crews with patient care and returned available at 1330 hours. Ambulance 06-7B handled the transport of the patient to the hospital for further evaluation. Finally, at approximately 1940 hours the fire companies were dispatched to 914 Bartram Avenue in Collingdale Borough for a Natural Gas Leak outside. Engine 06-1 and Engine 42 arrived on scene with a strong odor of gas outside being caused by a high pressure gas line leaking and requested PECO Gas to make an emergency response. Safety Officer Kilroy (42-10) established command and upgraded the assignment to building fire bringing in additional pieces of apparatus and RIT 44 (Springfield). Crews from Engine 06-1 and Engine 42 secured the gas to the building and pulled a 1 ¾ hose line for safety precautions until PECO arrived on scene. PECO arrived on scene and determined the scene to be under control at 2039 hours and the companies became available.
Thursday, October 15, 2009 At approximately 2020 hours, Collingdale Fire Company #1 was dispatched to 1640 Delmar Drive (The Bullens Chemical Company) in Folcroft Borough to assist on a two-alarm working building fire. Chief 01-9 (Matthews) had command and gave Quint 06 the order to go to the “D” side of the building and put our ladder pipe in service for all companies were in master stream operations. There was a partial collapse of the rear wall and partial roof collapse which did enable companies operating of the “C” side of the building to start getting control of the blaze. Crews eventually were able to enter the building and brought the fire under control at 0114 hours. With over ten fire companies operating on scene, everybody worked well together and brought a stubborn fire under control that could have been potentially worse. Companies operating on scene were Company 01 (Folcroft), Company 02 (Norwood), Company 05 (Glenolden), Company 09 (Sharon Hill), Company 19 (Lansdowne), Company 42 (Collingdale #2), Company 43 (Holmes), Canteen 47 (Chester Township), Company 75 (Briarcliffe), County HAZMAT and numerous EMS agencies. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Pictures courtesy of Brian Feeney of Feeney Fire Films.

Monday, September 21, 2009 The Collingdale Fire Company No.1 along with our brothers and sisters of Collingdale Fire Company No.2 had a busy weekend on the 19th and 20th. Both companies attended the Aldan Safety Day on Saturday and Collingdale Safety Day and Memorial Service on Saturday. The members were out in force showing off their apparatus, Fire Prevention Training Trailer and ambulances. Police Chief Ken Copola helped the volunteers man the grills at the Aldan Municipal Bldg. to keep all the guests well fed, and the ladies kept the Collingdale attendees fed as well. The firefighters from both companies thank the residents for their words of support during the affairs and invite everyone to the Collingdale Fire Prevention Open House, sponsored by both companies and scheduled for October 25th from 11:00AM to 2:00PM at the Collingdale Community Center.

Sunday, August 23, 2009 With thanks to the Collingdale Swim Club and Capt. Andrew Payne, the firefighters and families of Station 06 enjoyed an afternoon at the pool for a company picnic. The members provided the barbecued burgers and dogs, chicken and steamed crabs with all the sides and everyone enjoyed the hospitality of the Swim Club. We hope to make this the first of an annual event. The food was good, the weather cooperated the wiffleball game winners were picnic champs and our hosts were fantastic. Our thanks to everyone who pitched in to make this a perfect Sunday.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 Collingdale No. 1 Hosted a visit from the students of Community Interactions on Tuesday morning. The young adults, all with special needs, enjoyed their visit as did their chaperones. They got the grand tour including the apparatus and equipment, the fire-prevention training trailer, the ambulances and all the open areas of the fire company. After their visit, they were all given bags of fire prevention information and of course, a fireman's helmet. The group shot shows their smiles and tells the whole story of their visit.
Ready for the grand tour.
Packed in; just like the firefighters.
Sunday, August 2, 2009 Even the torrential rains couldn't dampen the spirits of the firefighters who assembled for the Rose Tree Muster, sponsored by the Cradle of Liberty Antique Fire Apparatus Association, this year featuring SEAGRAVE. A whole lot of companies participated showing off their prize worthy antiques. As the pictures show, some real classics were in attendance. Collingdale No.1 registered their Fire Prevention Trailer and took home another First Place for Fire Prevention to add to their impressive collection. Most of the trucks and engines drove in, but a few classics were trailered in, including a hand pulled hose reel from early 1800s. The rains broke the event early, but a good, although damp time was had by everyone.

Saturday, July 25, 2009 The firefighters from CFC1&2 were down the training center running joint car fire evolutions this past week. Mr. Gene Bidoli brought a portable CAF system to demonstrate. The CAF system consisted of what appears to be a regular PW extinguisher with a chemical foam bottle added and a cart mounted system capable of generating 500 gallons(by volume) of foam. Both systems were tried out as well as standard car fire procedures. One added bonus to the evening was that one vehicle had a metal burn in the interior and several rookies got a hands-on demo of burning metal procedure and the use of the portable foam applicator.

Sunday, June 28, 2009 From a most generous donor, Collingdale No.1 now has two (2) motorized chairs to loan. The donor stipulated that these chairs be loaned to any disabled veteran without charge with a combat injured veteran receiving preference. We ask only that you sign a release to accept responsibility for proper use and care, and the chair be returned to the company when the vet acquires a permanent replacement, or no longer has a use for it. These chairs are used and we hope they can help out, at least for while. Please contact the president at scarter@collingdale1.com for more information. Final approval comes from the company membership, but the president will be more than willing to help.
