Monday, February 22, 2010 At approximately 0814 hours, Collingdale Fire Company #1 and Collingdale Fire Company #2 were dispatched to 819 Bedford Avenue for a Vehicle Fire. Engine 06-1 arrived on location and found the vehicle in the driveway with the engine compartment well off with possible exposure to two houses. The crew from Engine 06-1 under the command of Chief Colin McCann (06-9) quickly put a line in service and extinguished the blaze while a crew from Engine 42 secured the battery. Fire was contained to the engine compartment but the vehicle appears to be a total loss. Fire companies were on scene for approximately an hour. There were no injuries to any firefighters nor to the owner of the vehicle. The only picture of this fire was taken from a cell phone since there was not a camera on scene so we apologize for the quality of the photo.

Thursday, February 18, 2010 Even during a time of mourning, training must go on. Members in attendance tonight stayed inside for drill and went over the ins and outs of our MSA Air packs. This was a great opportunity for the newer members to learn the different parts of an air pack, how to properly change a bottle and how to properly done an air pack. Even our more senior members refreshed their skills on the newest feature on our air packs, the bail out system as well as checked the batteries in the PASS alarms to be sure they would activate in case of an emergency. Other members in attendance took Utility 6 around the borough to be sure all hydrants were dug out from the recent snowstorms and be accessible in case of a fire emergency. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 Tonight a few members from Station 06 spent the night as our region was being hit with yet another Nor’easter during this winter season. All together, parts of Delaware County ended up with anywhere from 18-24 inches of snow courtesy of Blizzard #3. While members were not busy responding to Fire or Ambulance emergencies in the towns we proudly serve, we decided to make the best out of the storm and build a five-foot tall snowman in front of the fire house. Members assisting were Mike Boyle, Dan Harold, Nick Marinaro, Bryan Dolan, Joe Dolan and Timothy Murray. Our snowman made it all over the Delaware Valley region for it appeared on several news station including KYW, NBC10, WPVI and also appeared on Page 6 of Thursday’s Daily Times. All together, Collingdale Fire Company #1 responded to a total of three fire emergencies and numerous EMS emergencies during this blizzard. Thanks to all those members who stayed the night and staffed our apparatus.
Thursday, February 4, 2010 Tonight members in attendance for crew night took what we learned last week and put it to test in a Ground Ladder Practical. When time is of the essence, the ability of a single firefighter or company of firefighters to place a ground ladder into operation must be a smooth and efficient operation, therefore, we must continue to train. Under the command of 1st Lieutenant Dave Seifert & 2nd Lieuenant Mike Boyle, members practiced carrying various ground ladders, went over the various uses for ground ladders, practiced raising and lowering ground ladders including the angles at which the ladder should be placed and finally how to secure a ladder. Halfway into drill, we were alerted to respond to the area of Collingdale Park for a brush fire. Engine 06-1, Engine 06-2 & Utility 06 made the response along with Collingdale Fire Company #2 to find a small fire in the area of the cemetery that borders the park. Crews quickly extingushed the fire and went back to continue our Ground Ladder Practical.
Thursday, January 28, 2010 Tonight members from Station 06 started off the training for the new year. Back to the basics as we trained on ground ladders. Next week members will take the knowledge learned this week and put it into real life scenarios as they will tested in a ground ladder practical.

Thursday, January 21, 2010 Shortly before our weekly crew night was set to take place, a vehicle pulled up on the apron of the fire house. As members were about to walk up to the vehicle to check it out, out stepped Philadelphia Eagles star cornerback Sheldon Brown. A few members that were present gave him a tour of our station and posed for a quick picture in front of Quint 06. Sheldon Brown was generous enough to give every member who was in the station a signed autograph picture. This was an unexpected and unforgettable experience for the members that were present at the station.
