Collingdale Fire Company #1 went to “Joe’s House” at Delaware County Emergency Services Training Center in Darby Township tonight as a continuation from last week’s topic of search and rescue techniques. Joe’s house is a two-story mock-up of a residential property with different kinds of obstacles inside that firefighters could encounter in a real life situation. Inside of Joe’s house, all lights are turned off and the whole two-story structure is filled with simulated smoke from a smoke machine to make the training as real as possible. Member’s in attendance broke down in two-man teams and performed either a right-handed search or left-handed search to conduct primary and/or secondary searches of the house to locate and rescue any trapped victims there may be. All members in attendance did an excellent job and came out of our two-week training session of search and rescue more knowledgeable and prepared for the proper techniques and tools to be used during search and rescue in a real life scenario. Next week, training will be brought to a halt for the Company will break and have a Memorial Service in Floral Hall that was postponed in February due to a snowstorm to honor our five (5) departed members from 2009.
