GROUND LADDER PRACTICAL

Thursday, February 4, 2010 Tonight members in attendance for crew night took what we learned last week and put it to test in a Ground Ladder Practical. When time is of the essence, the ability of a single firefighter or company of firefighters to place a ground ladder into operation must be a smooth and efficient operation, therefore, we must continue to train. Under the command of 1st Lieutenant Dave Seifert & 2nd Lieuenant Mike Boyle, members practiced carrying various ground ladders, went over the various uses for ground ladders, practiced raising and lowering ground ladders including the angles at which the ladder should be placed and finally how to secure a ladder. Halfway into drill, we were alerted to respond to the area of Collingdale Park for a brush fire. Engine 06-1, Engine 06-2 & Utility 06 made the response along with Collingdale Fire Company #2 to find a small fire in the area of the cemetery that borders the park. Crews quickly extingushed the fire and went back to continue our Ground Ladder Practical.
