Morton-Rutledge invites Collingdale#1 training trailer to their open house.

Sunday, April 28, 2013  Our brothers and sisters of the Morton Rutledge Fire Company held an opren house on Saturday, April 27th, and invited Collingdale No.1 and their Fire Prevention/Life Safety educators to bring the training trailer to the event. M-R had a demonstration of side by side buildings, one as you will find anywhere and one with an installed sprinkler set up to show the efficiency of a sprinkler system in fire supression. Also, the had the "Burn Building" to allow the local children to put out a fire and of course, the fire prevention and escape instruction by the Collingdale team. Our thanks to Mrs. Jean Peterson, Mr. Dave Peterson and FPO Stynor Carter for giving their time for our brothers and sisters from Morton-Rutledge.

Darby

Wednesday, April 24, 2013  A little late for the post, but Collingdale #1 was there starting at 6:11AM to help with the great Liberian Market fire that tied up Darby Borough. At one time, Quint-6 was one of 7 Aerials throwing water to suppress this unbelievable fire. Soon into the attack, the order to evacuate was given just before the roof and back wall came down, From then, it became a surround and drown situation containing the fire to the one building. Collingdale #1 remained on scene until shortly after 13:00 hours after assisting some of our brothers and sisters pack up their apparatus. Sorry for East Lansdowne who came in and emptied their hose bed from Darby 1 to the fire scene. All their brand new hose served gallantly through the traffic, ash and grease. Now it's a combat tested fire hose. A long day for everyone who was on scene by any standard.

The Joyful Noise Day Care visits Station 06

Monday, April 15, 2013  The children and their teachers from the Joyful Noise pre-school paid a vist it Collingdale No.1 this Monday morning. The children were given the tour of the ladder truck, the engine and the ambulance. On hand today, the children were treated to a visit by Sparky who helped them learning Stop, Drop and Roll and fire safety. Firefighter Traore demonstrated how and what a firefighter dresses in as he/she prepares to fight a fire, and after the children had their chance to "gear up", they were sent back to class with goodie bags filled with fire prevention and safety information, and of course, their helmets. A fun and informative morning for the children and adults alike.

Collingdale No.1 Memorial Service.

Friday, March 1, 2013  On Thursday evening, February 28th, the members of Station 06 gathered to celebrate and honor the memories of members lost in 2012. We gathered with the family representatives of Jeannette Brennan and Winnie Neal Meehan of our former Ladies Auxilary, and firefighters Dale W. Hall, James J. McCaughan, Samuel J. Jillard and 65 year member Francis M. Byrne. After a dinner prepared by Mrs. Denise Hewlings, herself a life member of the company, those gathered reassembled on the opposite end of Floral Hall for the Memorial Service hosted by Master of Ceremonies, past President and 40+ year member John Hewlings. John gave the eulogy as a single white carnation was placed on our altar in memory of our departed members. After kind words from Mayor Frank Kelly, Chief Joe Locke Jr., President Erin McGlinchey, President of Collingdale 2 Pat McKeon and our company Chaplain, Reverend Perry Messick and our other invited guests, the families were presented a gift and a proclamation from Collingdale 1, thanking the families for the services of their loved ones. Our own Tom Heckman and Bill Carter provided the bagpipes. All in all, a fine evening honoring our own.

Ambulance Training.

Saturday, February 9, 2013  This past Thursday evening, crew night, the members of Collingdale no.1 and Collingdale No.2 held a joint training session at Station 06 for some ambulance re-training. As both companies respond to most of the borough's calls, both company's members also may be required to assist the 42 rescue as well as the 06 ambulance. Joint training session are set throughout the year to keep all out members familiar with all facets of our operations. This evening, everyone in attendance received some refresher points on patient handling and rescue. One reason you Collingdale responders are the best.

Spring Cleaning?

Saturday, February 9, 2013  The officers and members all pitched in to do a major clean-up of the Collingdale No.1. Starting with some donated carpet and a donated 5 gallon bucket of paint, the work detail proceeded to repaint the offices and hallways of the ambulance/business section of the company, the line officer's offices, the crew bunk room and they are continuing until the whole company is fully refreshed. As we are a company that never allows any donation to go to waste, we added to the donation to about an additional $600.00 and priceless member labor to include new office style chairs for our business area to go along with the carpeting in the duty crew bunk room, line officer's office and the new computer system recently approved by the company. The last major puff-up of the company was for our centennial celebration in 2006, and this year's detail will again make our company shine.
