Collingdale Fire Company #1 is located at 510 Clifton Ave., approximately five (5) miles South of Philadelphia in Delaware County, PA. We proudly serve the borough of Collingdale, Aldan and surrounding areas with Fire & EMS Protection along with Collingdale Fire Company #2. Collingdale Fire Company #1 also provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) with full-time paramedics from Taylor Hospital. The Fire Company consists of one (1) Quint, two (2) Engines and three (3) Ambulances. Our mission is to protect, serve and educate the surrounding communities in which we are called upon, with the strong dedication and professionalism of our members. The Fire Company schedules its crew nights on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm and our Monthly Company Meeting is held on the second Tuesday of every month at 8:00pm. We are currently accepting applications for employment on the ambulance. Applicants are required to have a valid drivers license, current CPR certification, and current Pa. State or National Registry EMT. EMT’s should have a minimum of 2 years 911 street experience. Please contact station06ems@aol.com with your information. Previous applicants need not apply.

Our annual Ambulance Fund Drive has been mailed, and we are asking the community’s support in this, a very important part of our fundraising for the year. We continue to maintain a fleet of 3 ambulances, each stocked with state-of-the-art equipment to handle all medical emergencies. We are very proud of our EMS staff, who respond with professionalism and caring to over 3000 calls per year. They stay current with continuing education, in the classroom, and in the field. Your support of our Ambulance Fund Drive goes a long way in helping us maintain this level of excellence in emergency medical services. Our thanks for your past and continued support!

Collingdale Fire Co. No. 1 sends our condolences to the Mid-Sussex County Rescue Squad in Lewes, Delaware. An ambulance transporting a patient to the hospital crashed this morning around 2am on Route 24 near the Lewes Fire Department Sub-station. The patient and a 31 year old paramedic were killed in the crash and two other crew members were taken to the hospital. Keep all of them in your prayers.

Collingdale No. 1 and the Collingdale Swim Club will be hosting a Monte Carlo Night tonight at the swim club located at Andrews and Rhodes Avenue. There will be a senior special from 5 pm to 7 pm. $15 to get in and you get $5 back. All others will be 7 pm to 11 pm. Food and beverages are included. Come out and support this event. On April 7, 2008, members of Collingdale Fire Co. #1, along with members of Collingdale #2 and the Collingdale Police Dept., were honored before the borough council meeting for a rescue performed at a working fire at 405 Beechwood Ave. Collingdale. Member Charles Pascale III, along with Officer Mark Finley (Life Member and former Trustee) were commended for their acts of heroism. In addition, Mr. George Boothby and Mr. E.J. Blancke, members of Collindale Fire Co. #2 were also honored for their actions at this alarm. The Delaware County Fireman’s Assoc. also presented plaques to each individual to recognize their selfless acts. Because of the professionalism and dedication displayed by these individuals, one of our residents was rescued from a burning building. Collingdale Fire Company #1 plans to take the field in the next few weeks to begin yet another season. The 2008 Season offers two divisions with Collingdale Fire Co #1 placed in the East with Springfield Police, Sharon Hill Fire Company, Tinicum Township Fire Company, Sector 5 Police, and Radnor Police Department. Collingdale Fire Company’s First Game will be held on April 29th at 6:30 pm at their new home field, the field located behind the Collingdale Community Center. Collingdale Fire Company will also be hosting radio station Q102 for the fourth consecutive year. Collingdale Fire Co #1 leads the series 2-1 against the radio station. The game will be held on May 15th, 2008 at 6:30 pm at a location TBD. Come on out and support your local Volunteer Fire Company, Collingdale Fire Company #1.

This holiday weekend, Collingdale Fire Company #1 along with Collingdale Fire Company #2 hosted their annual flower sale at the Collingdale Community Center. Many members came out and showed their support towards the fire companies and offered much help in the selling of flowers. Crews also shared together in a great comrodory as well as in a BBQ with plenty of food for all members. Special thanks to all members who assisted in the successful weekend.

Collingdale began Valentine’s Day at approximately 01:19 am when they were dispatched to 1200 Woodlawn Ave, Collingdale to Not Just Pizza for a natural gas leak inside. Engine 06-1 arrived under the command of Lieutenant 06-13A (Pascal) to find PECO on location working. Crews then hit the street and headed to Darby at 10:12 am for a Building Fire at 121 Main Street. Quint 06 arrived to assist Company 04 (Company 04) with ventilation of the building due to unattended cooking. At 4:31 pm Quint 06 was dispatched to 737 Cooke Ave, Darby Township for an automatic fire alarm. Quint 06 was recalled prior to going responding authority 77-9B. At 6:51, Company 06 (Collingdale Fire Company #1) and Company 42 (Collingdale Fire Company #2) were dispatched to 111 Wayne Avenue, Collingdale for a building fire. Early this evening, around 6:35 pm Company 06 (Collingdale Fire Company #1), Company 42 (Collingdale Fire Company #2), Company 09 (Sharon Hill Fire Company), Company 75 (Briarcliffe Fire Company) and Company 21 (Darby Fire Company #2) were dispatched to 1123 Walnut Ave, Collingdale for a building fire with possible entrapment. Engine 06-1 under the command of Captain 06-9B (Felker) hit the street with Engine 09-2 and were advised to be a working fire by police with possible entrapment. Chief 42-9 (Moors)arrived on location to report a single family dwelling with heavy fire in the front of the building with all occupants accounted for and assumed Walnut Ave Command. Engine 06-1 arrived on location and led off with an 1 3/4 line and quickly went in service. Engine 09-2 arrived to assist with throwing ground ladders and assist with ventilation. At 10:20 am, Companies 06, 42( Collingdale #2) and 09 (Sharon Hill) were dispatched to 904 Clifton Avenue for the Dwelling Fire. Upon seeing the smoke from the firehouse, 06-9B (Felker) requested the Rapid Intervention Team from company 44 (Springfield). Police arrived first on location to report a working fire on the second floor of the dwelling. Quint 06 arrived similtanously with 06-9 (Hanly) with smoke showing from the second floor of a two story, single family dwelling. 06-9 assumed command and the Quint’s crew started an Inch and three quarter handline to the second floor. 42-1’s Crew handjacked a supply line to the hydrant in front of the building then assisted with streching the Quint’s line. 09-2’s crew laddered the dwelling and went to the roof with 06-1’s crew. Today, at approximately 7:53 am, Company 06 (Collingdale Fire Co #1), Company 42 (Collingdale Fire Company #2) and Company 09 (Sharon Hill Fire Company) were dispatched to 218 Sharon Avenue for a building fire, unknown if any occupants were in the building. Crews had heavy smoke showing from the firehouse, as Collingdale police reported a working fire in 218 Sharon Avenue. Quint 06 arrived on location to report a two-and a half story twin with heavy fire showing from the front. RIT 43 (Holmes Fire Company) and Company 04 (Darby Fire Company) were soon added to the response. Crews led off with a two inch attack line as Engine 42-1 hit the hydrant at MacDade/Sharon Ave laying into Quint 06. Command was held by Captain Ken Felker as interior quickly reported the bulk of the fire to be knocked and began to check for extension. Today, Collingdale Fire Company #1 gathered at the firehouse around 7:30 am for breakfast at the firehouse prepared by Denise Hewlings. The members after breakfast went out into the community of Collingdale with the trucks with Santa to distribute Chocolate Taffies to the children of the community. Crews arrived back at the firehouse around 11:30am to help participate in Lunch with Santa. After lunch, crews broke down the hall and set the hall up for their fun, which was held that night, their annual Christmas Party. Special thanks to Mike Gallo and Dawn Mooney for all of their hard work put into making the annual Lunch with Santa yet another success as well as to Denise Hewlings for the delicious and filling breakfast that was and has been provided year after year. Collingdale Fire Company #1 wishes a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Tonight, the line officers of Collingdale Fire Company #1 opted to stay inside tonight for crew night and decorate with putting lights up throughout the firehouse. Lights were hung on the outside façade as well as throughout the game room. Special thanks to all members who came out and showed their Christmas spirit in the getting the firehouse ready for the holiday season.

Tonight, Company 06 (Collingdale Fire Company #1) was requested at 8:05 pm to assist Company 04 (Darby Fire Company #1) with a working fire at 1018 Tyler Avenue, Darby. Quint 06 arrived on location under the command of Chief Hanly to assist Company 04 (Darby Fire Company), Company 21 (Darby Fire Company #2), Company 10 (Colwyn Fire Company), and Company 42 (Collingdale Fire Company #2) with the working fire, which originated on the third floor of a twin house. Assistant Chief 04-9A (Caruso) had command as Company 06 assisted with roof operations and salvage and overhaul operations. Company 19 (Lansdowne Fire Company) also assisted by providing their Rapid Interventions Team. The fire was placed under control at 21:01. Today, at 8:06 am Company 06 (Collingdale Fire Company #1) was dispatched along with Company 04 (Darby Fire Company #1), Company 21 (Darby Fire Company #2), Company 10 (Colwyn Fire Company) and Company 42 (Collingdale Fire Company #2) to 901 Summit Street, Darby for a Building Fire reported to be the second floor. Police arrived on location to report a working fire with heavy flames from the second floor. Engine 04-1 arrived on location to being fire attack. Chief 04-9 arrived to assume command and requested Company 19 (Lansdowne Fire Company) for the Rapid Interventions Team. Quint 06 soon after hit the street and arrived second on scene to assist with ground ladders to the building as well as fire suppression. Crews began an interior attack before the evacuation order sounded as crews switched to a defensive attack. Command requested a second alarm due to the intensity of the fire as well as for manpower. On Friday, October 26, 2007 Collingdale Fire Company will host a Halloween Party beginning at 8:00 pm and lasting until 1:00 am. Tickets are $20.00 as will all proceeds going to benefit the injured Sharon Hill Firefighters. Prizes will be given for best costumes as well as door prizes will be on hand. Food and beverage will be served. Th party will take place at Collingdale Fire Company #1’s Floral Hall, located 510 Clifton Avenue, Collingdale. Tonight, the members of the Collingdale Fire Company #1 were given the opportunity to drill in a live burn scenario at Delaware County Emergency Service’s Training Center’s Burn Building. The members were given the opportunity to learn and practice the fundamentals of an effective engine company with working with first and second floor scenario’s. Crews entered as a group and practiced the various techniques of hose streams when fighting a fire. Crews also learned about how essential ventilation is when fighting a fire. Crews practiced hydraulic ventilation as well as search and rescue operations.

Tonight, Dave Karlunas gave his time to help teach the members of the Collingdale Fire Company #1 as well as members of the 4th District the fundamentals and advantages of an Engine Company. The class is a series of classes to be hosted by Delaware County Emergency Services Instructor Dave Karlunas. Special thanks goes out to Dave for giving his time to help expand the knowledge of the members in attendance. Dave will also be attendance next Wednesday the 24th to teach Truck Company Operations as well as on November 1st to teach Residential Structural Fires.

This month's member of the month is awarded to Gerald Boyle Sr. Jerry has served the company for over 15 years. Jerry currently serves as an Assistant Engineer and a Trustee of Collingdale Fire Company. Jerry has served on the board for 7 years. Jerry resides in Collingdale with his wife Donna, and three sons Jerry Jr, Daniel and Michael. Both Daniel and Michael also serve as volunteers for the fire company. Jerry has also been a huge help around the firehouse helping out with much maintenance that is needed. Jerry attends crew nights regularly and is always there to help the new members learn a thing or two. Jerry is a valuable asset to Collingdale Fire Company #1 and Collingdale #1 is pleased and hopes to have Jerry around for many years to come.
